Five Things I Learned In 2016
Lesson #1. No One Owes You a Thing
"Entitlement is a delusion built on self-centeredness and laziness." You get what you put in. Work hard, go after what you want and don't look for hand-out's. If you put in the work, you will see the reward and the end result will be that much more rewarding knowing you earned it.
Lesson #2. Be Open
Sometimes the things we are praying for and asking for isn't always delivered in the most conventional way. Sometimes our blessings come in different forms and through paths, roads, and people that we never could've imagined or expected. Embrace your journey and be open to new ideas and opportunities.
Lesson #3. Seek God in ALL THINGS
A little confession here, I've made some decisions in life that were of the flesh and not led by God. These poor decisions have definitely humbled me and taught me some VERY valuable lessons. Some of the experiences, detours, and set backs in my life could've been avoided had I been obedient and done what I knew to be right and that is seek God First. There's an old saying my parents used to say when I was younger, "A hard head will make a soft behind" and it's funny I understand this so much more as an adult than I did as a child.
Lesson #4. Follow Your Heart
If you can't stop thinking about it and dreaming about it then follow your heart! Sometimes we allow fear, self-doubt and naysayers to infiltrate our minds and heart and hold us back from pursuing whatever it is we want in life. Sometimes you have to quiet the mind, focus on Jesus and just go! A plan without action is a dream wasted.
Lesson #5. Letting Go is Sometimes Necessary
As we grow, we are sometimes faced with the very difficult decision of letting things go that no longer serve us or which we are no longer of service. I personally believe it takes more courage sometimes to let go than to hold on, as that's a true sign of strength and maturity. Whether it be hoarding clothes, shoes, things, letting go of unhealthy relationships, or a job; a good clean-out is VERY necessary. Let Go and Let God!
