NYFW-Essence Street Style Festival

Hello Loves!!!

As most of you fashionista's and fashionisto's already know NYFW started last Thursday. Essence held their 2nd annual Essence Street Style Festival this year in DUMBO, Brooklyn. I must say it was a great event. It was so wonderful to see so many stylish, eclectic, beautiful people in one setting. It was a very chill, laid-back environment; filled with individuals eager to network and socialize. There were a couple of jewelry/clothing vendors, as well as a couple of stations for kids, which included face painting. Shea Moisture provided beauty stations in which hair and make-up makeovers were offered. The lines were pretty long for a lot of the activities, so I didn't partake in a lot of the offerings. There were also two stations for festival goers to have their picture taken with two different Essence Style backdrops. Again, these lines were astronomical and I wasn't about that life. I arrived a little after 1:00 pm and the event started at 12, so possibly if I would've arrived a little earlier I might've been able to enjoy some of the perks. There were four food trucks which all offered different types of food. I was too busy taking in all of the fashion's to eat. :-)  Overall, this was definitely a great event filled with fellow bloggers, entrepreneurs, fashion stylist's, etc. I definitely will be going back next year and hopefully I will have the ability to meet even more people than I did this year. If you are in the NYC area, I definitely encourage you to try to make it next year.

The Styling:

So, it's absolutely no secret that I love African prints. So, when my friend TJ called me and suggested we attend the Essence Street Style Block Party this year, I already knew African prints would play some part in my attire. I felt it was the perfect event to represent such a rich culture. I stumbled upon this samacaca print, and I was immediately drawn to it. It truly pops and I like the blend of bold colors and the tribal pattern. I knew I wanted to wear flats for sure, due to the amount of walking I'd be doing. So I opted to do a long maxi skirt. I originally planned to wear a sleek black, off the shoulder bodysuit with this skirt but literally five minutes before walking out of the door I decided to be daring and rock my crop top. I am glad I took the risk because it definitely added some edge and modernized my look a bit. Confidence was definitely key for this look! I loved the contrast of the black and white stripes and y'all know any opportunity I have to mix prints...I will.  Well, hope you enjoy! XOXO
